İstiklal Street
İstiklal Street, Istanbul
İstiklal Street, previously known as Grand Rue de Pera or Cadde-i Kebir, has been the Late Ottoman and Early Republican spine of Beyoglu, while the only large void with a perspective on this avenue is the Taksim Square itself. It is an urban line in which cultural and architectural heritage and collective memory survive. The project aimed to rehabilitate the facades of existing 209 buildings, as well as the pavement and sections throughout İstiklal.
