Diyarbakır City Wall – Outer Fortress (Sur – Derve – Yekane)

We propose a basic and a calm landscape approach for the Fortresses project, in which issues physically and visually damaging the fortification walls are resolved with the necessary urban interventions. The major idea of the project is to define the wall via the pedestrian promenade, that strives to respect and emphasize the city wall without being in competition with them. The conceptual approach of the project is to implement the idea of an open-air museum in the area, in which the walls become part of the exhibit.

Diyarbakır Outer Fortress, between the old city market and Fiskaya, on the northwestern edge of the “Diyarbakır Fortress and Hevsel Gardens” property, was inscribed for World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2015.
