‘Çanakkale Coastal Promenade’: Staring at Gallipoli …

The waterfront boulevard that constitutes the project area is known as ‘Çanakkale Coastal Road’, and we call as “Çanakkale Coastal Promenade”. This promenade is used actively throughout the year and functions as the main area of socializing, meeting, amenities, and leisure for Çanakkale people. The city center, and especially the waterfront is mostly visited by domestic and foreign tourists, and the boulevard acts as the main open-air communication zone of Çanakkale.

The visual connection of the project area with the Gallipoli Peninsula, which was the natural spectacle of the Çanakkale Wars, raises significance of that coastal road. This urban design project aims to accommodate both residents and visitors by providing them with present-day and flexible waterfront that establishes strong relationships with the city and has alternative modes of transportation like vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle, efficiently functioning. The area currently contains a clock tower, square, and a pier, while the project proposes continuous pedestrian circulation, resting and recreating areas, street and boulevard cafes and urban furniture. Throughout the project, a linear system of lighting has been proposed in order to enhance the nightscape.
