Urban Rehabilitation Project for Casablanca Waterfront: Costablanca
Morocco Casablanca Waterfront, Urban Design and Architectural Project Competition
Casablanca, grew in concentric circles around the ancient city center (medina) by the ocean, has less connections with the new urban zones and the waterfront when distance from the ocean gets more.
Our design takes ‘fluidity’ as its major concept, and displays the idea at multiple scales. In the urban scale, we offer a regenerated, operative transportation system between the waterfront and the city that well carries the users to and through the waterfront with tram lines, bike paths, pedestrian routes, and vehicular roads. At the waterfront scale, we offer interconnected, flowing spaces that create a linear succession of urban plazas oriented towards the Atlantic Ocean. In smaller human scales, our design has a pedestrian circulation network that is guided and defined by lush and fluid green canopies.
The project won the second prize in the international competition of invited design teams for rearranging the Casablanca Waterfront in 2016.
